Get an insider view into creating the exhibition by hearing from special guests about their methods, materials and processes. Nina Mulhall, co-curator of Notions of Care will lead artists Anna Dunnill and Kate Tucker in discussion around their work, and the experience of participating in this exhibition.
Notions of Care explores the ways in which art and nurture are interlinked. Through the works of Arini Byng, Snapcat, Polly Stanton, Kate Tucker and Katie West, ways of caring are unfolded, cultivated, and enforced. The exhibition asks questions about the ways that art can care for both viewers and artists.
Throughout the exhibition, care is explored through a variety of means. From soft sculptural forms, bodily interrelations, field recordings and the scent of local flora, the exhibition welcomes a personal and intimate reverence of calm.
Notions of Care is a Bus Projects exhibition touring with NETS Victoria. Curated by Kathryne Genevieve Honey and Nina Mulhall.
This project is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, and received assistance from NETS Victoria’s Exhibition Development Fund 2020, supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.
Ararat Gallery TAMA (Textile Art Museum Australia) is thrilled to host NGV Kids on Tour this summer!
NGV Kids on Tour offers children and families throughout
regional and metropolitan Victoria the opportunity to engage
with art and creativity through a range of free hands-on activities,
games and workshops developed by the NGV.
The theme for this year’s program is ‘Let’s Make Art!’ The
program shares activities from the NGV children’s exhibition and
book of the same name Making Art: Imagine Everything Is Real
which ran from June to October 2022.
This year’s activities are inspired by methods of working used
by some of the leading European artists from the early twentieth
century. Georges Braque, Remedios Varo, Pablo Picasso
and Natalia Goncharova lived and worked in Paris in the early
twentieth century and are recognised for their innovative and
experimental approaches to making art.
While learning about these artists, children can make their
own surprising works when they explore collage and drawing
techniques, write poetry, play Surrealist games and turn shapes
into sculptures.
→ Activities available for primary ages, and for teens
→ Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult
→ Free entry, bookings essential
→ If you miss out on the workshops, please ask us for a free take-home activity bags for children to enjoy at home.

Join us for the official opening of ‘Weaving Eucalypts Project’, an exhibition by artist Liz Williamson, on Friday 17th March at 1pm.
Liz will present a talk about the project, and light refreshments will be served in the Gallery foyer.
This collaborative project by Australian weaver Liz Williamson explores local colour, cultural connections, and shared weaving traditions. It extends from Williamson’s research into experiments with Australian natural dye plants and unique colours extracted from locally sourced plants. The project features 100 panels woven by Williamson with fabric dyed by 60 collaborators with over 50 eucalypts species identified and sourced from over 50 locations.

In 2020, Williamson began inviting colleagues in Australia and India to colour silk fabric with eucalyptus leaves collected locally. Once received in her studio, the fabric was stripped and woven into panels referencing the traditions of woven rag rugs and ‘making do’ where ‘new’ items are made from old or readily available materials. In this project, the fabric is new while the colour is readily available in eucalyptus leaves, bark, and twigs. The woven panels reflect place and location while the process has created a unique community of practitioners.
Since 2021, the project has expanded to connect with more colleagues in Australia and India as well as other countries touched by the Indian Ocean – Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Thailand.
